Policy Statement

The University reserves the right to search students and their personal property for suspected forbidden items, such as illegal drugs, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, firearms, fireworks, pornographic material, property of another, etc., upon suspicion that any rule or law has been broken. This includes the right to enter and search a student’s room including the furnishings and personal property therein.

Policy Procedures

Reasonable effort will be made to have the student who is involved and their roommate(s) present. However, the search may be made whether or not the student who is involved and/or their roommate(s) is/are present. The University reserves the right to confiscate any suspected forbidden items or suspected evidence that a rule or law has been broken. The university further reserves the right to use all reasonable means, including, but not limited to, reasonable force to detain a student suspected of breaking a rule or law. Students found in possession of items which are suspected of being forbidden or suspected evidence of a law being broken will be punished as the University, in its sole discretion, deems appropriate. In addition, the matter may be reported to law enforcement.

Failure to follow this policy may lead to disciplinary action.
