Confidentiality of Student Records (FERPA)
Policy Statement
A student’s record is confidential. The release of information from a student’s permanent record is governed by federal law: the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. #1232g:34 CFR Part 99).
Policy Procedures
Only directory information may be released by the institution without the consent of the student. Directory information includes the following: student’s name, address, telephone number, birthplace and date, field of study, participation in officially recognized activities, dates of attendance, degrees and awards received, and the most recent previous educational institution attended. This policy applies to all CU students (resident, modular, and online) and to all official documents (personal records, academic information, e-mails, examinations, and assignments).
