Tyler, Dr. Larry
About
Dr. Tyler took an early retirement from the Medical College of Georgia in 2001 to pursue his life-long goal of teaching the Bible at the seminary level. After completing his PhD in Biblical Studies from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, he began his teaching career at CU in 2006. Since then he has also become the Dean of the School of Bible & Theology.
On Sundays, he also serves as the Pastor of Big Oak Christian Church (Baptistic) in Biscoe, NC. He enjoys preparing messages for laymen just as much as he does for his students at CU. His expository messages communicate both the meaning of Scripture as well as the practical aspects that need to be applied to our lives today.
He and his wife, Sandy, have four sons, one daughter, and one granddaughter. He firmly believes in the importance of discipline and in exercising the body, the soul, and the mind. In addition to teaching and preaching, he regularly works out at Planet Fitness three times a week with his sons and sometimes his wife. Normally he eats lunch at his desk, and if time allows, he goes to a greenway near CU for a short walk. His favorite hobby is playing golf.
