About
Professor Alison Lew is a Registered Nurse (NC and CA), an Accredited Case Manager (with ACMA), and Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (with AONL). She specializes in nursing leadership, population health, personal health management, and public health care. Her research focuses on patient perceptions of health care, rural health, and social determinants of health.
In addition to a career in academia, Professor Lew is also the Director of Health and Wellness at Carolina University. She has actively worked in health care for over 20 years as a nurse case manager, utilization review nurse, care coordinator, inpatient coordinator, and nurse consultant. Her clinical & leadership experiences include nurse case manager at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, nurse case manager at Duke Health in Durham, and multiple roles at Cone Health in Greensboro including utilization review nurse, nurse case manager, and care coordinator. She was a founding member and co-president of Carolina SAFE at UNC-Chapel Hill while an undergraduate student. She is a current member of the American Red Cross in Disaster Health Services for the dynamic North Carolina Region, where she provides disaster health care as a RN, meets the health care related needs of disaster-impacted clients, and supports deployed disaster volunteers. Professor Lew has also been active in several professional organizations, such as the American Organization for Nursing Leadership, the American Case Management Association, and Forsyth Focused (for Suicide Prevention).
Professor Lew has designed and implemented several new and exciting programs for Carolina University students. For example, she established CU’s Mental Wellness Weeks, Wellness Wednesdays, and the Student Assistance Program. She is actively involved in intra-professional collaboration projects with the Athletics Department, Student Services, the Health & Wellness Office, and Academic Services to improve student health and success. She actively mentors and encourages public health students and students interested in careers as health care professionals.
