Koontz, Dr. Kelsey
About
Dr. Kelsey Koontz spent numerous years teaching in the public and charter sectors, primarily in
upper elementary across the state of North Carolina. Her career began in rural eastern North
Carolina, where she taught at two Title I and CEP schools. After several years, she moved
locally to teach at a charter school. While teaching, Dr. Koontz enjoyed coaching the science
olympiad team and the girls' basketball team. Currently, she is working at a local community
college as the Science Curriculum Facilitator.
Dr. Koontz’s doctoral research focused on understanding the impact teaching pedagogies have
on students’ self-efficacy. The educational practices mainly examined were procedural and
conceptually based learning. Her passion is implementing engaging and relevant topics into the
curriculum to heighten student success.
