About

Joseph Byrd is a Master Trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and has been in law enforcement in some capacity since 1999.  He’s had the unique experience of being an Infantryman and a Military Police Officer in the US Marine Corps, a city police officer with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, and a North Carolina State Trooper since 2006. His areas of expertise include Driving While Impaired and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing/Instructor, Drug Recognition Expert Training/Instructor, and Collision Investigation. He is also a NC Driver’s Education Instructor.



Trooper Byrd is married with two sons and is heavily involved with many extra-curricular activities with his family. He previously served as a youth football and high school wrestling assistant coach. He is also very active in his local church congregation.



He holds a BS and MS in Criminal Justice from Liberty University and currently teaches numerous subjects in Basic Law Enforcement Training, the NC State Highway Patrol Academy, and works as an adjunct with the NC Conference of District Attorney’s.
