Atlantic Baptist Bible College Legacy
Carolina University welcomed Atlantic Baptist Bible College as the second school to partner with Carolina University in the strategic formation of the CU network of Schools in December of 2008.
Atlantic Baptist Bible College located in Chester, Virginia was set on 42 beautiful, wooded acres which included dormitories with laundry facilities, a church, dining hall and a handful of outbuildings. The college was created as a place for men and women to prepare for effective ministry. Pastors and teachers intentionally invested in the students with their time and served as mentors.
Atlantic Baptist Bible College had three areas of concentration put in place to ensure proper ministry training.
- The Bible. Every course derives its fundamental principles from the Bible. The answers to the complex problems of mankind are contained in God’s Word. Therefore, every servant of the Lord needs to have a discerning knowledge of the Bible.
- The Church. All courses emphasize the necessity of the Lord’s church. God has ordained the local church for the perpetuation of His truth and work in the world during this dispensation. A call to His ministry is a call to minister through His church.
- The Practical. The practical development and application of the concepts learned are emphasized through a Christian Service Training Program which provides a unique learning apprenticeship enabling the student to develop skills and gain experience in practical application.
When the announcement was made that Atlantic and Carolina University were merging, immediately it was an emotional time as the students were sad to leave the school they loved. However, it quickly turned to a joyous time as they realized almost 100 percent of the “Atlantic family” were moving to CU to continue their training for effective ministry!
The faculty, staff and students of Carolina University are excited about the merger of our two great historical schools and we can only imagine what will happen as together they continue to raise the bar and train Christian leaders for effective ministry and to “go and make a difference”.
In honor of the Atlantic Baptist Bible College, Carolina University will offer all Atlantic alumni and their families a generous scholarship of one third off, when they continue education at Carolina University.
