She holds graduate certificates from the University of South Florida’s Muma College of Business in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace Setting and a Post-Crisis Leadership Graduate Certificate. Her dissertation focus includes first-generation female doctoral students with the aim to make higher educational policies more accessible. Dr. Carr’s dissertation research uses Paulo Freire’s critical consciousness theory to encourage agency and dialogue among her female participants through a conscious raising discussion and an innovative qualitative method called photovoice.

Her scholarly research interests include education, learning styles, adult development, diversity, equity, and inclusion, curriculum development, literacy, and critical theories. She has presented posters at the American Association of Adult & Continuing Education and the Sunshine State Teaching and Learning Conference.
